The Banners of Sunrise
The Sunrise Banner Mission was born from the desire of two Sunrise women, Janette Forsyth and Ember Woods to enhance the sanctuary and worship service at Sunrise. The two friends complimented each other well. Ember was the inspiration and Janette the facilitator. Ember had a vision to create banners to represent each season of the liturgical calendar. Janette had a background in color and fabrics. Thus, the goal was set, and a small idea turned into a big dream. From the fall of 2009 until the end of 2019, these two ladies have spent endless hours designing and constructing 28 beautiful banners symbolizing Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Pentecost, Lent, Easter, Thanksgiving, and various meaningful scriptures and religious symbols. The banners have provided an inspiring visual focus for worship and a scriptural reminder of our faith and relationship with God, as well as adding beauty and elegance to the sanctuary.
