Sojourners

A Sojourner is one who has a temporary stay.  Sunrise women have chances to become a sojourner twice a month-- the first and third Thursdays of September through May.  Those journeys have taken them on many educational, entertaining, and mission-giving opportunities.

Sojourners began as SOS (Serving Our Savior) in1969.  In 1989 the name Sojourners was adopted. Meetings begin with socialization, devotions, coffee, and goodies, with different hostesses every time.  This is followed by a program that consists of study, special speakers, a project, or a video.  Prayers and concerns are asked for and a concluding prayer ends the meeting.

Programs consist of community speakers, religious or bible studies, planning a Holy Week Matins service, and luncheons twice a year at Christmas and springtime.

Projects: collecting and distributing blankets, making lentil soup for shut-ins, sprucing up the church every spring with a cleaning day, helping with Festival of Trees decorations.

Local missions: Providing support for Sandy’s kids (students at the alternative high school), Children's Receiving Home, FISH, Food Bank, Grace House Veteran’s Home, Family Promise, gift cards for our college students at Christmas, cookies for the local college students during final week, purchasing and filling “Just For You” boxes for Child Bridges foster care program.

World missions: purchasing gifts from the Presbyterian Giving Catalog, Least Coin Mission of the Presbyterian Women (In memory of Norma and Donn Wimmer).
